How It Works

An articulating telescopic boom combines two boom actions in one unit: a lower boom section that articulates (folds) at a jointed pivot, letting the platform reach up and over obstacles the way a knuckle-boom lift does, and an upper section that telescopes — extends in a straight line — for additional reach and height beyond what the articulating joint alone could deliver. That combination makes the AT-1600 more versatile than a boom that is purely articulating, which tops out at its joint's reach, or purely telescopic, which is limited to straight-line movement, on its own. The boom is hydraulically operated end to end — double-acting rams on self-lubricating pivot points move the boom sections, four hydraulically operated stabilizers level and anchor the truck chassis, and a worm-reduction slew bearing gives the platform 360-degree continuous rotation. The whole system is designed to EN280 standard, with a 3kV insulated bucket available as an option for electrical maintenance work.
